Hiya from a fellow :iconprojectcomment: member!

Holy. Fudge. This is SOOOOOO PRETTY! I'll try not to ramble your ears off her, but there's so many good things about this piece, I love it to pieces! I especially love the pose you have her in, it's so fitting to her design! Her hair is so pretty, I love how you drew the shine, and the separate strands near her face are super nicely drawn. Nice choice with the green eyes, too. Some people hear me say this a lot, but the color helps draw your eyes to the face, kudos to you for doing that so well! I actually don't mind the fact that she's breaking the 4th wall like Auburn does, in fact, I rather like it!

The one and only thing I'd suggests tweaking in future pieces is  the shading on her tail. The way you've drawn the background, the sunlight is coming from the top left corner. This is all fine and dandy, but the area between the two "side fins" is shaded. Don't you think that  if the sun was shining down into the water that part would be in sunlight? Maybe that's just me not understanding how sunlight works, idk.

Anyway, that's about it! Keep making gorgeous pictures, and Happy Drawing!

Hello from Project Comment.

Your use of movement and color in this piece are very enjoyable; there is a surprising mix of tranquility and vivacity in elements.  In particular, the green fins on her tail are perfect against the dark background, balancing the greener hues in the upper half of the frame.  The speckling where her tail meets her belly, as well as the spots further down, give texture and believability to her.  I also like the way you chose a somewhat Arabic sort of top for her, like a belly-dancer's bodice.  That Arabic feel, aided by the arm cuff, lends a whole new flavor to the mermaid, unlike what we're accustomed to seeing.  Her red hair made me think of Disney's version of Arial, but the similarity ended right there and I was easily able to abandon the comparison.  the somewhat "lumpy" curves of her tail, show muscle and bone working underneath, not a mathematically perfect slope that would look artificial.  Her chest is thrust forward and her arms are back, as if she's just traversed the course her tail, following behind, depicts.  She's coming up and maybe to a halt?  Her finger positions show both tension and grace, like a dancer who exerts herself in her movements, requiring balance and coordination, but does so with the delicacy a novice couldn't have.

Where I see room for improvement begins with that nicely chosen bodice, and her chest in general.  the curve of her breast below her left shoulder is continued by the pearl accents of her top into a rather large sweeping curve.  This would seem to indicate rather top-heavy woman.  Yet the white laces show now curve or roundness.  Are her breasts wide and flat, like pancakes?  Something is not setting right with me as I look at it but I'm not sure just how to describe it.  The other thing I'll point to is that her eyes appear vacant.  The pupils are so small as to be almost absent.  Maybe that's it, or maybe not, but somehow she looks hypnotized or stupid.  Those eyes also seem angles as if to be looking toward the viewer, not straight ahead, yet nothing else about her seems to support the idea that she's attempting to break the fourth wall.  So I'm confused.

You have outstanding execution, and I'm mightily impressed.  I hope my comment is helpful.

This looks awesome. I think I'll have to put you on my list for potential commissions.

I love the tail, but I feel like it's almost disproportionate to the body. The tail narrows out, but it looks like it's too long. Just from a physiological perspective the tail looks too long. From an artistic perspective it looks awesome. I guess it depends on whether you would want the tail to have more artistic flare or a more realistic form. The area that seems to be off physiologically is the hook like curve at the very bottom.

Hello!  Found this on :iconprojectcomment: and it really caught my eye.  Its an amazing work and I wanted to give what feedback I could.

The colour pallete really works fantastically.  Her red hair really presents a nice contrast with her blue-purple tail.  The green on her fins is a really nice touch that compliments the main colour pallette and gives a nice whispy look, like the fins of a betta fish.  The colours give a nice shifting effect that makes the textures stand out and give a nice scaled look.  I also love the details on her top, especially the little pearls.  Its a nice little touch that ties her back to the underwater world in which she's living.  All in all, colours really stand out here as the high point of the work.  The translucent nature of her fins also is done really well.

One minor issue I notice is the curve of her back.  It gives a really nice effect, but the angle is a bit too extreme and seems to be bending a bit more than it should.  It makes her torso look unnaturally long and throws the work off a little bit.  Her eyes are beautiful, but they are just a touch off and a bit unbalanced.  Not really too big of an issue, its a very subtle one.  Very nice job on the arms and hands though, they have a really nice relaxed floating look.  The floating effect of her hair and fins really places her in the scene and gives good effect to the water around her.  The background is simple, but very effective at contrasting with her figure.

All in all, this is a fantastic and beautiful piece.  It works really well and you should be proud of the result!  Good luck on your future works!

So...this is gorgeous!  This entire beautiful painting is gorgeous!  I am a sucker for red hair and green eye are her hair is so vibrant and those eyes are so bright that I am immediately drawn to her face.  I love how inviting her gaze is and the light highlights her face just right!  The way your painted her hair definitely makes it look like she is in the water and I love how smooth the shading on her skin is.  The supple skin texture contrast well with the more rough and scaly texture of her tail!  I love the color choices on her fins and and tail very much; the purple and blues go very well with the green and the circular movement of the fins just adds to the composition!  The tiny details are awesome here too; the jeweled detail of her top and the lace and netting on her top and accessories complete the character!

The one issue I have with this piece is that while the movements of her tail and hair definitely tell me she is underwater, I wish she seemed more integrated into the background; she doesn't seem like she is a part of the environment you designed.  Perhaps more green on the highlights and deeper blues and purples on the shading, especially on her skin, would've helped meld her into the environment and bit more and integrate the two.  Maybe a little bit of the texture towards the top or showing a few streams of light cutting into the water would also help highlight the ocean a bit more.

Either way, gorgeous image!  I love it!  I definitely feel the joy in this piece and it makes me want to go to the beach!  Excellent work!

Well, in the block in stage they were dark blue. So I knew they where going to be cool green hue. I used a cool green to faintly block in the shapes (low opacity). Then I experimented and liked a warmer green for the areas that I wanted to appear like they where catching extra light. At some point (don't really remember when) I put a dark blue over the lighter areas in color dodge and it gave a cool sort of wispy look when the opacity was lowered on the layer. I started to detail them more, but found the wispy gossamer look to my liking, so I left alone. Hope that makes some level of sense and is helpful. :)

Projectcomment here :) :constructive:

This looks outstanding as hell! :D

I really love the detail you've put into this character, she seems very real. I especially like the shading that you've done on her, (it looks on point!)

Her hair, where do I start here? You got the flow really well, it's all consistent and the color is very well put too.

The backdrop on this one is very crisp and it really feels like water.

Back to the shading, I honestly think that you could've darkened the area near her fins at the bottom so to compliment the darkness behind. It looks way too lit but not at all a deal breaker. I especially like the detail of the fins, you've got the transparency right and all and it looks very clean :P

I really like the clothing on her, it looks very detailed and I should think that you've taken more time into it than the rest.

The anatomy is on point too, I like how you've gotten the pose to look great as well, seems very realistic, even for a fiction being.

Overall, I really can't point out any negatives other than that the shading  should've been darker down on her.

Using the word conceptual because it original intention was to get people in a certain group thinking about possible uses for an image such as it. Thanks for the comment.

What an exotic looking long sinuous tail! I love the extra fishy fins!  She has quite the lovely & divine looking slender physique...yowza!! ;)  Love to see some exotic looking webbing between her fingers, too! ;) The webs would complement her cute fishy fins.
